"Then Passing through the midst of them . . ."

“Sandra, come here! I found a nugget!”

I joined Terry on the couch, where he was sitting with Bible in one hand and a bright yellow marker in the other.

Terry was anxious to share a scene he’d just read from Luke 4:17-30.

“Look, here Jesus is, in the synagogue. He’s just read aloud from Scripture (Isaiah 61:1-3)—that the Spirit of the Lord is upon Him, anointing Him to preach the gospel to the poor, having sent Him to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who were oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Then Jesus announces that ‘Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’”

Before I could ask, “Okay, but what did you discover?” Terry broke in, “Look at the crowd’s reaction!” Terry continued to read from Luke 4:28-29:

“So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up and thrust Him out of the city, and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff.”

My dear husband caught his breath then read the last passage (Luke 4:30): “Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.”

I was now the one excited: How many times had I read this passage but not seen the revelation? At this moment, God’s Word was revealing to me (and obviously to Terry!) something awesome about the power of Jesus—that nothing could stop it!

This brings me to you. Are you facing challenges? No matter how great they are, Jesus is greater.

Jesus is our Vine and we are His branches. As our Vine, we draw strength and power from Him (read John 15:1-8). In Acts 17:28, we are told that we live and move in Him: “For in Him we live and move and have our being . . .” If you are facing challenges today, or obstacles in your way, let Jesus carry you and you will pass through them all—His way.

Onward in Jesus Christ!
